Working in Our Community
A core value at Surveying The Bay is contributing to our region by initiating and supporting beneficial land-based projects, using our expertise for the public good, and engaging in constructive relationships with councils, the community and other professional groups.
This way of working is inherent in the way we do business and live our lives. Our work in the natural, social and built environments entails responsibility to do the best job we can for the current and future generations.
We support staff involvement in initiatives that enhance the environment and make Hawke’s Bay an even better community in which to live. Recent initiatives we have led or supported include:
Revegetation
We grow native trees from seed and gift them to developments or community projects, often assisting with the planting too. Our latest revegetation programmes have been at Kairakau, Roys Hill, Omarunui Pa and at the Whatever it Takes Trust’s health facility at Riverbend Road. We have prepared a handbook, Propagation Guidelines, to assist others interested in raising native plants and given away more than 30 copies to date. The handbook is available for downloading as a pdf document of less than 3 MB – click [here].
Sponsorship
We have been either Gold or Silver sponsors of the Magpies, and sponsored the inaugural Wildflower Sculpture Exhibition in 2008. We provided the local Cancer Society branch with a boundary redefinition survey of its property at no cost, and undertook a free survey to assist the Flaxmere Gardens planting programme.
The Surveying The Bay team also serve the community and profession through memberships of Rotary Clubs in Hastings and Napier, the local Chamber of Commerce, the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors and its Consultants Division Management Committee. Also the Business Network International organisation, the New Zealand Contractors Federation, the local Property Investors Association and through giving lectures to school and tertiary students.
