Warren Gunn
Director
Registered Professional Surveyor, Bachelor of Surveying, MNZIS, MCSNZ

After completing a Bachelor of Surveying in 1992, at Otago University, Warren has lived and worked in a number of places at home and abroad before settling down in the Hawke’s Bay with his wife Fiona in 2005. Stints in the golden land of Australian mines, the deserts of Northern Africa, the bleak cold expanse of the North Sea (on oil platforms in the depths of winter), and various construction projects in central London and Northern France, have satisfied his wonderlust and he believes there is no better place in the world to bring up a family than good old NZ. “You’ve got to leave to realise just how special our country is in terms of the availability of a fantastic balanced lifestyle”.

Warren joined Surveying The Bay in 2005 after spending time in Auckland and Wanaka with a large national multi-disciplinary consultancy. He became a director in 2008 after realising the strength, vision and culture of the company was one he wanted to be part of long term.

Warren is a passionate sailor, growing up around boats in Auckland, and continues his association with the sea with involvement with the Napier Sailing Club and fishing out of Waimarama with family and friends alike. Warren’s dream is to one day take his family cruising to the Pacific Islands on their own yacht, and believes there is no better way to relax than stepping onto a yacht and heading off over the horizon.

Effective communication and the setting of end goals are crucial aspects to the success of any project, and Warren particularly enjoys the project management side of his role within the business. The company’s technology champion, he is passionate about utilising technology to the best advantage, for the benefit of clients, in terms of efficiency and accuracy of data capture and associated cost savings.
